Construction & Buildings

The construction sector is now undergoing considerable energy and ecological changes. Innovations, sobriety and environmental footprints are the keywords of this impetus initiated since the Grenelle Round Table on the Environment of 2007 and which has gained momentum since the Paris Agreement of 2015.

Challenges

Four major challenges for the construction sector:

  • Reducing the greenhouse gas emissions of existing buildings: the no. 1 challenge for France is thermal and energy renovation. The national targets set out in the Law on Transition of 2015 aim at a renovated building stock regarding LCB (Low Consumption Buildings) from now to 2050.
  • Limiting the environmental impacts of new constructions, in both the upstream phase (materials, equipment) and during their utilisation. The environmental regulations of 2020, based on the Energy-Carbon Label experimented since 2016, will replace the Thermal Regulations of 2012 and directly include carbon thresholds.
  • Anticipating the physical risks linked to the effects of climate change, in other words adapt to more intense and more frequent climatic episodes that affect buildings and the comfort of those that occupy them.
  • Anticipating the risks of transition linked to the effects of climate change on regulations, client behaviours, technologies, markets, work practices, processes, etc.

Our assistance

In this dynamic context for the sector, Carbone 4 assists the actors of construction and property to define their strategy and implement tools adapted to their needs regarding these 4 major challenges (from corporate strategy to low carbon constructions sites).

Thanks to its experience, Carbone 4 helps to simplify taking into account climate challenges, with offers adapted to the different actors:

  • Estate and social housing managers,
  • Property developers,
  • Construction companies,
  • Industrial companies, materials and equipment sectors.

Since 2019, Carbone 4 and the IFPEB (Institut Français pour la Performance du Bâtiment) have coordinated the Hub of low carbon clients: the Hub. The aim of this platform is to create an expert community equipped with highly operational tools applicable to carbon in the construction industry.
