Following a consultation process, Legendre decided to partner with Carbone 4 to conduct this initial carbon footprint assessment and jointly develop an action plan, while also helping its teams build their skills.
Gain a thorough understanding of the Group's operations
Carbone 4 first familiarized itself with the Group’s multi-product structure and the specific characteristics of each subsidiary’s business lines. This step made it possible to segment the various areas to be considered and then identify the types of data required for each one.
Develop an initial, rigorous assessment that the teams can understand
To ensure the reliability of the assessment, workshops were then conducted for each subsidiary (Construction, Real Estate, Investments, Operations, Industries, Support Services, etc.). The goal was to clarify the specific characteristics of the various business activities and identify existing data sources. This framework made it possible to develop data collection forms to be completed by Legendre’s teams and to raise awareness among the teams about the carbon-related challenges facing their respective business lines.
Carbone 4 has consolidated the results of this initial assessment into a transparent and structured tool, enabling teams to adopt the methodology and replicate the exercise on their own.
Collaboratively Developing an Operational Roadmap
Carbone 4 proposed a method for setting reduction targets by taking into account existing regulatory frameworks (SNBC, SBT, CRREM) as well as a benchmark of targets set by other industry players.
Ideation and modeling workshops with Legendre’s business experts helped identify opportunities for cost reduction and assess their technical, financial, and human feasibility.
Based on this analysis, Carbone 4 quantified the reduction potential associated with the selected actions and then consolidated the results into a detailed action plan.

A Custom Calculation Tool
Carbone 4 has developed a custom tool that has become a cornerstone of Legendre’s carbon footprint management. Legendre’s teams are continuously improving this tool to increase its accuracy for each emissions source.
This mechanism allows for a twofold strategic interpretation:
Sustaining Internal Expertise
The roadmap outlines a governance framework and initial milestones for change management to ensure the successful operational implementation of the initiatives.
As part of this initiative, Legendre has created the position of Carbon Coordinator, who is now responsible for conducting an annual review of the carbon footprint, explaining the issues to the teams and the Executive Committee, and implementing the decarbonization strategy in collaboration with the business units.
A path set in motion by the first concrete decisions
The project resulted in an initial quantification (carbon per euro) that makes it possible to prioritize actions based on their effectiveness and cost. Several concrete courses of action were identified: incorporating LCA into design decisions, leveraging internal engineering capabilities, gradually shifting the business toward renovation, and developing low-carbon solutions such as modular wood construction.
As part of its ongoing commitment to more responsible development, Legendre launched an internal consultation in 2022 to identify the issues that are most important to its employees. This initiative led to the identification of several key initiatives, including one aimed at “measuring and reducing our carbon emissions and establishing a path to reduce our carbon footprint.”
As part of this effort, Legendre decided in 2023 to measure its greenhouse gas emissions, set realistic reduction targets, and develop an action plan to achieve them.
