iD4D Conference: The Ecological Transition: How Can We (Finally) Get It Started?

Lecture on Thursday, June 19, 2014, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the French Development Agency (AFD) 5, rue Roland Barthes, Paris 12 The ecological transition of our societies, in both the North and the South, is one of the major challenges of the 21st century. Although this message is widely repeated and discussions surrounding this transition abound—particularly in the context of international negotiations (the post-2015 agenda, climate negotiations, etc.)—its implementation remains in its infancy. Many solutions are emerging “on paper” or being tested through pilot projects, but their practical implementation or widespread adoption remains problematic. Why? What are the obstacles? Should we (re)think economic and financial tools to meet this challenge? How should we define the public policies of tomorrow? How can we ensure their implementation and monitor their impacts? To what extent can technology help bring about the energy transition? What lessons can be learned from experiences on the ground?
