Strategy Leaders Program for a Decarbonized Economy

Moving beyond short-term management is becoming a necessity in a world undergoing profound changes physical, economic, and regulatory challenges caused by climate change. Integrating medium- and long-term perspectives is feasible by envisioning one’s business in a world in transition: however, these future worlds differ significantly from “business as usual” and its corollary of exponential and infinite material growth—a perspective that is unrealistic and unsustainable.
It is therefore essential to consider these disruptions as part of the company’s strategic planning to ensure the business’s long-term performance and resilience.. However, this requires a thorough understanding of the current economic and environmental situation, its physical determinants, and its root causes. New tools must also be deployed to help business leaders and strategists build a resilient strategy that mitigates major risks and capitalizes on the opportunities arising from a complex, systemic crisis.
Carbone 4 thus launched its Strategy Leaders Program for a Decarbonized Economy, designed for economic decision-makers who wish to integrate the low-carbon transition into the core of their corporate strategy and value creation. It aims to educate these individuals on the strategic challenges of decarbonization, as well as on the strategic thinking tools relevant to this context. It also serves as a forum for active, candid exchange among peers.
The first module of the introductory course for the Strategy Leaders Program for a Decarbonized Economy took place on June 20, 2019. The afternoon was organized into four segments, attended by Carbone 4 partners Laurent Morel, Alain Grandjean, and Jean-Marc Jancovici:
- Understanding the Current Economic and Environmental Situation
- Discover a powerful tool for strategic thinking in the context of a systemic crisis: scenario analysis
- A New Approach to Strategic Analysis: A Case Study in a Small Group
- Networking with colleagues over drinks at the end of the day
