Study on the Decarbonization of Freight Transport - National Truck Platforms

Carbon 4 and the NGO Transport & Environment will coordinate the French portion of the European Climate Foundation’s study—conducted in six countries—on the decarbonization of freight transport.

Decarbonizing the road freight sector has been identified as one of Europe’s main challenges for the coming decade. The National Truck Platforms (NTP) brings together key stakeholders in transportation and logistics—industry representatives, public sector actors, academics, and NGOs—from six European countries to develop concrete recommendations on measures to accelerate the decarbonization of the sector.

Why decarbonizing road transportation is essential:
- Heavy-duty vehicles account for about 1% of the total EU fleet, but they are responsible for more than 26% of road transport emissions.
- Trucks account for about 5% of total EU emissions.
