Low-carbon hydrogen: a source of hope for a successful energy transition?

Complying with the Paris Agreement means “avoiding the unmanageable” by limiting the worsening of climate change that is already underway. To achieve this, we need a sharp and rapid reduction in global greenhouse gas emissions, and in particular a sustained decline in fossil fuel consumption. One small molecule offers great hope for achieving this: hydrogen. Although it is low in carbon, it offers a solution for phasing out fossil fuels in certain applications and successfully completing the energy transition, while strengthening our independence.
