Carbone 4 will contribute to the implementation of the sustainable finance action plan established by the European Commission

Carbone 4, a consulting firm specializing in energy transition and climate change adaptation, is pleased and proud to join the technical expert group established by the European Commission to implement the action plan on sustainable finance.

The list of the 35 selected members was released on Tuesday, June 13, and includes seven representatives from the Paris financial center. Jean-Yves Wilmotte, a manager specializing in finance at Carbone 4, will contribute his expertise on methodological issues, as he will be one of the few representatives in that area. This is a major achievement for Carbone 4, which has been developing robust methodologies for GHG emissions accounting for over ten years—and more specifically for the financial sector for the past five years—such as Carbon Impact Analytics, co-developed with Mirova. “The fact that the Commission has selected Carbone 4—the only consulting firm included on this list of European experts—is a major recognition of our expertise in the financial sector,” say the partners at Carbone 4. This will also be a real challenge, as it will be necessary to convince financial stakeholders (who are numerous in the expert group) of the need to take this type of analysis—with its share of constraints and opportunities—to the next level. Four key areas of work await the expert group:

• The development of a common taxonomy to identify activities that have a positive impact on the climate;
• The definition of a European standard for green bonds;
• A discussion of the low-carbon indices used by asset managers as benchmarks for their investment strategies;
• The development of indicators to improve climate data reporting.
