MyCO2 Introduces a New Method for Calculating Personal Carbon Footprints
MyCO2, Carbone 4’s new approach to personal carbon footprints, provides an educational and comprehensive visualization of the average French carbon footprint.
To accelerate the transition for employees and citizens, Carbone 4 has developed a new approach to individual carbon footprints. Through interactive in-company presentations and free webinars for the general public, MyCO2 explains the complex topics and scale of carbon footprints in the personal sphere. This is the ideal context for easily grasping the nuances of carbon in a straightforward way.
Constantly striving for accuracy and completeness in the reporting of transactions to be recorded, MyCO2 is introducing a new method for calculating personal carbon footprints and an educational visualization today. This work is the result of, on the one hand, two years of discussions with the Ministry of Ecological Transition to gain a detailed understanding of the official methodology and, on the other hand, our participation in the expert group that helped improve this comprehensive indicator.
By cross-referencing numerous sources—CITEPA, the High Council for Climate, Agribalyse v3, and INCA 3—MyCO2 has produced a study that is unprecedented to date, taking into account all greenhouse gases, imported deforestation, and aircraft contrails. These factors are not currently taken into account by the ministry for reasons of methodological consistency, but they are included in the reference carbon databases. This study provides a more comprehensive view of emissions and brings the average carbon footprint of a French person to 9.9 metric tons of CO2 equivalent in 2019, or an increase of 0.9 tCO2eq from the ministry's official figure.
This new distribution is intended to become the go-to resource for understanding your personal carbon footprint. This is the culmination of in-depth work by the MyCO2 team at Carbone 4, which offers a a more accurate, comprehensive, and educational picture of the average carbon footprint in France.
