ADEME and Carbone 4 are supporting stakeholders in the construction sector as they work toward carbon neutrality by 2050

ADEME AND CARBONE 4 ARE SUPPORTING CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY STAKEHOLDERS IN THEIR EFFORTS TO ACHIEVE CARBON NEUTRALITY BY 2050

As greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from human activities have risen dramatically—which could lead to rapid global warming— the international community committed at COP 21 to limiting the rise in global average temperature to 2°C by 2050. In France, the National Low-Carbon Strategy, seeking to raise its ambitions to achieve this goal, is focusing on an ambitious reduction in emissions from the building sector. In fact, GHG emissions related to energy consumption in residential and commercial buildings, as well as to the construction materials and equipment used, account for nearly one-third of national emissions.

In light of these climate challenges, ADEME and Carbone 4 have conducted a study aimed at clarifying the concept of carbon neutrality based on a rigorous and shared definition, translate it into expected national “carbon” target values for the sector, and propose three courses of action to enable stakeholders in the construction sector to move toward carbon neutrality by 2050, in line with the national ambition.
