Carbone 4 Expands into Luxembourg

Carbon 4, an independent French consulting firm that supports organizations in their transition toward decarbonization, climate change adaptation, and biodiversity conservation, is expanding internationally with its first office in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

Founded in 2007 and led by Jean-Marc Jancovici, Laurent Morel, and Alain Grandjean, Carbone 4 has nearly 200 consultants and more than 800 client references. Building on its experience in advising organizations and providing data and methodologies to financial institutions, Carbone 4 has completed more than 3,000 projects worldwide. Its mission: to facilitate understanding of environmental challenges and mobilize agents of change by supporting them in decarbonization, climate change adaptation, and biodiversity restoration.

Carbone 4 is already working with several Luxembourg-based organizations, including the House of Sustainability and Inspiring More Sustainability (IMS), as well as several major companies. By establishing a direct presence in Luxembourg, Carbone 4 is putting all of its know-how and expertise at the service of the country’s economic and financial stakeholders.

Luxembourg: A Market Facing Several Challenges in Reducing CO2 Emissions

As Luxembourg aims to reduce its carbon footprint by 55% by 2030, the Luxembourg government is expanding its support for businesses to encourage them to make green investments. In fact, according to the European Environment Agency, Luxembourg is by far the country with the highest per capita greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the European Union. In 2021, a resident of the Grand Duchy emitted an average of 17.6 metric tons of GHGs, more than double the average for the 27 EU member states (7.9 metric tons per capita).

With a strong presence in the financial sector, comprising some 3,400 investment funds, Luxembourg’s economic players have begun their transformation, giving Carbone 4 the opportunity to educate them on the environmental and regulatory challenges that shape their business and guide them toward strategies that ensure sustainability and resilience, in a world facing climate change, finite resources, and the need to preserve biodiversity. The potential for reducing emissions also exists in the real economy. At the regional level, transportation, construction, and industry represent the major emitting sectors. There is room for improvement in this area.

A range of specialized expertise to address the challenges of the Luxembourg market

With teams in France and Luxembourg that already have a deep understanding of the Luxembourg market, Carbone 4 plans to roll out its methodologies while adapting them to the local context.
