Carbone 4 launches the MyCO2 Workshop: a small-group format designed to help participants understand the orders of magnitude of carbon

After the MyCO2 Interactive Conference, Carbone 4 is launching the MyCO2 Workshop : a small-group session designed to help participants understand the orders of magnitude of carbon emissions, based on its framework for the distribution of France’s carbon footprint, updated for 2021.

The MyCO2 Workshop

After launching the MyCO2 Interactive Conferences two years ago—which have reached 50,000 people—Carbone 4 is expanding its range of awareness-raising formats with the “MyCO2 Workshop,” which is an ideal complement to other workshops such as the Climate Mural.

While the interactive conference offers an ideal format for raising awareness among 50 to 5,000 people simultaneously, the workshop was designed—as a complementary option—for small groups of 5 to 15 people.

With the goal of engaging as many people as possible in climate issues, the MyCO2 Workshop provides a better understanding of the scale of carbon emissions—broken down by emission categories (such as food types) and by carbon intensity across various areas of life (travel, food, heating systems, etc.). The workshop encourages the implementation of effective, concrete, and useful actions in both personal and professional spheres.

The workshop’s educational content is based on the chart showing the distribution of France’s carbon footprint per person, published by Carbone 4 in January 2022 and widely shared since then (Le Monde, La Croix, Les Echos, Le Canard enchaîné or even (Economic Alternatives).

It takes place in two phases. The first phase is “on paper” and does not involve any digital tools; it consists of participants collaboratively completing the chart using sets of cards. The second phase of the workshop invites each participant to use a smartphone version of the MyCO2 tool to calculate their carbon footprint, discuss key takeaways, share their concrete commitments, and leave the workshop with their personalized chart. This smartphone version maintains comparability with the average carbon footprint, which is the unique feature of Carbone 4’s MyCO2 methodological approach.

The MyCO2 Workshop is intended to be rolled out as widely as possible, in companies and across all types of organizations (nonprofits, schools, local governments, etc.). It will initially be led by the Carbone 4 teams and may subsequently be offered by trained ambassadors.

Updating the Chart Showing the Breakdown of France's Carbon Footprint with 2021 Data

The desire to improve general understanding of these complex topics is at the heart of Carbone 4’s work. Following the widely shared publication of the graph based on 2019 data - which supplements the calculation by the Ministry of Ecological Transition—as data has evolved and our understanding has improved, we are publishing a more accurate and up-to-date version for the year 2021.

While similar to the 2019 chart, the precision of the methodological work has nevertheless made it possible to refine many emission sources and understand their impacts in greater detail.
