Publication: A carbon methodology aligned with the challenges of a 2°C scenario

Today, there are high expectations regarding the measurement of carbon impact. Voluntary initiatives—as well as, gradually, legislation—are pushing institutional investors to address the issue of their portfolios’ impact on the climate and the energy transition. Nevertheless, current methodologies for measuring the carbon footprint are insufficient to assess an investment portfolio’s contribution to these challenges. These approaches, which do not adopt a “life cycle” perspective on the carbon footprint, have the particular shortcoming of failing to account for emissions associated with companies’ products and services. Yet their impact on the climate is crucial in many sectors—whether positive, as in the case of renewable energy and energy-efficiency solutions, or negative, as with fossil fuels. In light of this, Mirova and Carbone 4 have decided to form a partnership to develop a new methodology capable of providing a carbon measurement aligned with the challenges of a low-carbon economy: Carbon Impact Analytics (CIA).
