User Guide for the OCARA Tool for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) and Mid-Sized Companies
To strengthen the climate resilience of French small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and mid-sized companies and better equip them, Bpifrance and ADEME, in partnership with Carbone 4, have designed and rolled out the Diag Adaptation. Diag Adaptation is a methodology, accompanied by a toolkit, designed to help companies reduce the vulnerability of their operations to the risks of climate change through (i) conducting a physical risk assessment for a site and (ii) developing an initial adaptation plan for that site.
Diag Adaptation is a program that complements Bpifrance’s range of support services and the methods developed by ADEME. In order to make the process accessible to as many companies as possible, A public version of the Excel worksheet used in Diag Adaptation is available on the Carbone 4 website. This tool is called OCARA for SMEs. This guide outlines the key methodological principles and instructions for using this Excel file.
The Method and the Tool OCARA for SMEs are an adaptation of the OCARA method and tool[1], developed by Carbone 4 in 2020–2021. That is why the key methodological principles are retained. Only the level of detail in the analysis and the scope of application have been reduced (metropolitan France, a smaller number of processes). Conversely, the tool OCARA for SMEs allows you to calculate gross and net risk scores directly within the tool.
At Carbone 4, we have been helping companies navigate the process of adaptation for 10 years. We help them assess their physical risks and develop adaptation plans; we train them and provide them with the tools they need to guide them toward putting the “Adaptation” mindset into practice.
