Webinar to Present the Prospective Study The Role of Infrastructure in France's Transition and Adaptation, conducted in collaboration with OFCE-NEO and made possible with the support of the National Federation of Public Works.
Infrastructure refers to all permanent facilities, structures, and equipment that underpin France’s economic activity, with public authorities serving as the primary contracting entities.
They are therefore essential to our way of life and a cornerstone of the smooth functioning of our society.
In metropolitan France, infrastructure-related activities account for 50% of France’s carbon footprint (domestic emissions plus the net balance of imported and exported emissions).
Infrastructure is closely linked to climate change:
- They generate greenhouse gas emissions over a long period of time, due to their operational lifespan.
- They are increasingly affected by climate change: they are exposed to physical risks.
- Transportation infrastructure is among the first to be affected by the physical impacts of climate change.
❓What about tomorrow? How should France’s infrastructure evolve to keep pace with changing patterns of use and contribute to the country’s decarbonization and resilience?
❓How is infrastructure vulnerable to physical risks associated with climate change?
❓What adaptation measures are needed for existing infrastructure, and what new adaptation infrastructure is required, to prevent social, human, and environmental risks?
We will discuss these key elements for France’s low-carbon transition and adaptation during the webinar presenting the study on February at 10 a.m., featuring Hélène Chauviré, manager at Carbone 4, Jacques Portalier, and Joseph Hajjar, Head of the Emissions, Projections, and Modeling Office within the Climate and Energy Efficiency Division of the DGEC’s Department for Combating the Greenhouse Effect.
