4 Essential Steps in a Climate Strategy
Resources from the Carbone 4 Academy
Do you want to take action within your organization and implement a ambitious climate strategy?
The Carbone 4 Academy explains, step by step, the essential steps you need to know to take action within your company.
Measuring Your Carbon Footprint
Measuring a company’s carbon footprint—the starting point for any corporate climate strategy—provides a snapshot of its greenhouse gas emissions over the course of one year. By encompassing all of the company’s activities, the carbon footprint also provides an estimate of an organization’s exposure to carbon risk and its dependence on high-carbon fossil fuels.
Commit to reducing greenhouse gas emissions
Setting greenhouse gas emission reduction targets allows a company to demonstrate its level of ambition, the timeframe for its commitment, and the scope of its actions. It is a sign of credibility and determination, clearly showing the company’s commitment to decarbonizing its operations.
Take action by deciding what steps to implement
Based on its greenhouse gas emission reduction targets, the company must implement:
- an action plan, including an assessment of CO2 reductions and an analysis of the gap between current performance and targets, with the aim of maintaining a consistent and sustainable trajectory for reducing its greenhouse gas emissions.
- a low-carbon roadmap aimed at reducing emissions resulting from the company's operations and contributing to global carbon neutrality.
- monitoring mechanisms and performance indicators that provide both an external perspective on the decarbonization strategy that has been implemented and a quantitative assessment of the company’s progress.
Postpone commitments
Preparing a climate report enables a company to align itself with the growing demands of stakeholders—whether they are investors, customers, NGOs, or other organizations—for greater clarity and transparency in tracking its strategy.
It is also an opportunity for the company to demonstrate its good faith by completing the various questionnaires provided, thereby strengthening its approach with its stakeholders.
