Check out Carbone 4's events at COP26 in Glasgow
As the latest IPCC report highlights an alarming climate situation and an uncertain future, and as leaders from the 196 countries of the European Union are set to meet in a few days in Glasgow for COP26, it is essential that they make real commitments and step up their efforts to combat climate change.
Despite the significant delay in climate policy measures in recent years, there is still hope that leaders and their administrations will step up to the plate and show the way forward.
One of the goals of COP26 will be to take steps to implement the Paris Agreement. The Ministry of Ecological Transition states that“It’s hard to say whether COP26 will be a major success. We’re going to do our very best. But it’s quite clear that the geopolitical environment and the balance of power among the major powers are having an impact on the negotiations. Much of the attention is focused on China in particular—a country that is crucial to achieving the goals we have set for ourselves.”.
Alongside the issue of implementing the Paris Agreement, several topics will be discussed: greenhouse gas mitigation, adaptation, and financing efforts to combat climate change.
It is in this context that the project Net Zero Initiative, led by Carbone 4, has been invited to speak in Glasgow to present its latest work on the private sector’s contribution to global carbon neutrality.
Carbone 4 is co-organizing two side events:
- one at the European Union Pavilion on November 2, online, in partnership with the German Environment Agency (UBA) and the European Union’s Joint Research Center (JRC);
- the other at the French Pavilion on November 8, in person, in partnership with ADEME.
▶ The first one, “Connecting the Dots: From Raising Ambition to Mission Zero” will be available online on November 2 at 6:30 p.m.
The event will feature Julie Daunay, a manager at Carbone 4, alongside:
- Dirk Messner, UBA;
- Cyril Loisel, European Commission, DG Clima;
- Matthias Weitzel, European Commission, Joint Research Center;
- Qimin Chai, National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation (China);
- and Lord Deben, UK Committee on Climate Change.
▶ The second one will focus on Strategies for aligning businesses with the global net-zero goal, and will be moderated by César Dugast, co-head of the Neutrality Division at Carbone 4, alongside ADEME’s ACT team and a panel of companies and experts.
