Why aren't companies preparing for the consequences of climate change?

While climate change is already having a major impact on many companies, the issue of adaptation is still not sufficiently integrated into strategic planning.
Yet the stakes are high and the risks are varied: the health and safety of employees and customers, business continuity, financial costs, the ability to recruit and retain employees, reputational risks, and, in some cases, even the long-term viability of the business model.
How can we ensure the continuity of our drinking water supply and transportation services while maintaining the same level of quality? Will it still be possible to do so during the heat waves and droughts we will experience over the next 10 years? Will industrial sites still operate year-round at the same level of production and safety during these same periods? How can we reorganize supply chains to limit periods of scarcity or simply the price inflation that occurs during severe weather events here or elsewhere in the world? Faced with increasingly frequent and intense climate disruptions, our socioeconomic system—which itself created the problem of global warming—is being severely tested.
But then why is the value of implementing an adaptation strategy within companies still up for debate? What are the obstacles and common misconceptions?
