Resilience and Adaptation: How Can We Prepare for the Impacts of Climate Change?

Interview with: Violaine Lepousez, Louise Badoche
There is a lot of talk these days about the impact of our activities on the climate and the need to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. But the climate, too, has an impact on our activities, our societies, and our businesses. Climate change brings with it a host of consequences for our organizations, to which we must adapt.
How can we prepare for the physical impacts of climate change? What is an adaptation strategy, and how can it be implemented within an organization?
In this episode, Violaine Lepousez, Principal and Head of the Adaptation and Resilience Division at Carbone 4, speaks with Louise Badoche on the topic and highlights the importance of preparing for the physical risks associated with climate change.
Extreme weather events are becoming increasingly frequent and are already having a growing impact on infrastructure, industrial sites, supply chains, and so on. Climate change will exacerbate this trend by increasing the frequency, scope, and intensity of these hazards.
Since every organization has its own specific characteristics (location, supply chain, suppliers, type of business, etc.), there is no generic adaptation plan that applies to all of them. Embarking on an adaptation process therefore requires a systemic analysis of physical risks across an organization’s entire value chain.
But as the IPCC explains in its latest report, assessing one’s own vulnerability to physical risks by taking into account the entire value chain and encouraging the stakeholders on which it depends to do the same, means equipping itself with the means to adapt and fostering its own resilience, as well as that of the society in which it operates.
