Challenges

Increasingly aware of the urgency of transition but also of the risks and opportunities stemming from it, the financial sector is progressively appropriating the challenges linked to climate change. The sector has a major role to play in energy and climatic transition. Indeed, this transition involves reviewing the traditional assignment of investments and finance in order to support sectors permitting the decarbonization of the economy, and to assist intensive sectors to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions (GHG).

Carbone 4 works with all players in the financial sector (banks, insurers, investment funds for all asset classes, etc.) to help them define an ambitious climate and nature strategy that includes, as a priority, the impacts associated with investment and financing activities:

Measure climate and nature impact and risk by calculating indicators, such as induced greenhouse gas emissions, avoided emissions, physical risks, or the impact on biodiversity, linked to investment and financing activities and portfolios
Define a transition plan including biodiversity, calculating a reduction pathway that is compatible with climate science, using rigorous methodologies such as Science-based Targets, and building ambitious action plans to achieve them.
Assessing the carbon and biodiversity impact of infrastructure investments, assess the exposure of infrastructure to physical risks and align infrastructure portfolios with a 2-degree pathway, using our CIARA methodology
Mapping the risks and analyzing the resilience of financial players and their investments to the physical impacts of climate change hazards
Supporting funds during the pre-investment phase in their choice of low-carbon companies, during the investment phase in the assessment of the company's carbon and biodiversity impacts, and over the life of the fund in reporting and implementing levers for action to reduce emissions
Training the various stakeholders in the regulatory issues and challenges posed by climate change and biodiversity loss, and responding to them with operational tools, through the Carbon 4 Academy.
